How to tell if head is warped?
Remove the head from the block and use a perfect straight edge with the flat-type feelre gauges. Position the straight edge in several different places, i.e. parallel with head and both diagonals and test in several places with the feeler gauges. The water shooting out could have indicated some debris in the cooling system that would create higher than normal pressure. A machine shop will do this for you and can machine the head back to flat if possible so that you can reinstall it and not have to buy a new head. Hope this helps.

Check to see if there is water in the oil and unscrew the oil cap and turn it over to see if there is like a milky substance and of so that is some of the ways.
You need to have the area above the coolant tested for hydrocarbons with a chemical test or an emission tester. A good repair shop or radiator shop can perform this test for you.
