When replacing a car engine what else should i have done to the car to prevent future problems?

ok so i'm thinking about replacing my engine in my acura legend. before i do that i would love to get a list of things to have my mechanic do before the engine is completely installed such as

1. change all the belts

2. change all the radiator hoses,

stuff like that. that way when i do this i can hopefully avoid alot of other problems in the future. my car keeps overheating and it seems i may have to change out the engine and i would love to get some good advice about what i should do before the engine swap is done. thanks

Get a second opinion! Do you know why your engine is overheating?

Replace the motor mounts while the motor is out.

Hi, you don't state if the car is Automatic or manual gearbox (stick shift), dependant on the mileage covered, it may well be wise to have a new clutch assembly fitted whilst the engine is out of the car, or have the auto gearbox serviced and the fluid changed, one less thing to worry about when access to these parts is easier!

Hope this helps.
Overheating is generally caused by:

1. Bad thermostat

2. Bad fan switch

3. Low/improper coolant

4. Clogged radiator

5. Bad water pump

6. Leaking coolant system

7. Clogged water jacket in the engine (very rare) - only this condition may require an engine overhaul.

Have you had a mechanic tell you exactly what's wrong with your car yet?

I would suggest that you replace belt tensioners and idler pulleys. Have the mechanic go over the head to ensure that the valves and springs are in decent condition. Also, head gasket and water pump. After 100,000 miles, the fins on the water pump propeller in my Taurus had completely completely dissolved.
check your clutch plate, release bearing and pressure plate. Check your g/box for leaky oil seals.
replace all the gaskets on the motor and trans while motor is out
