Why does my car overheat at higher speed?

-I have a jeep cherokee 96 classic

-it over heats on hiways if i drive 75mph for about 15 min, its seems ok in the city though

-i changed my second water pump this year

and i got all new hoses, radiator, cap and coolant

-there is no thermostat

-it was fine before, i use to drive over 100mph for hours

-my A/C don't work, but all the fans do

-the water/coolant comes out of the expansion tank when i stop

any posible reason for this? plzz
Why does my car overheat at higher speed?
first of all, there needs to be a thermostat in the system. IF you removed it thinking it would run cooler without it your wrong. There needs to be a restriction in the cooling system to slow the flow of coolant through the radiator. If there is no restriction, ie no thermostat, the coolant is passed through the radiator too fast to transfer any of the heat to the cooling fins. typically, if a vehicle overheats while driving and not at idle it's because the coolant is low. see above. when the engine is at idle the water pump is slowed way down so the coolant has time to transfer the heat off to the cooling fins of the radiator. also there is no load on the engine while idling. If you still believe you need to run your cooling system without a thermostat, then take the old thermostat and cut apart the wax pellet and discard. replace the rest of the thermostat back in the system to provide the necessary flow restriction. You can also use a flat washer that is the same diameter of the thermostat to sit in the housing. the hole in the center of the washer will restrict the coolant flow. this is the first thing I woult tell any customer of mine to do. if there are no leaks, the engine could be consuming the coolant internally. Or, you could have a cracked block or head allowing combustion gases to enter the cooling system and this is what you are seeing from the expansion tank. A good pressure test of the cooling system is in order. You can also purchase what they call a block tester. It uses a test fluid to check for combustion gases in the coolant. This will tell you if you have a cracked block or head, or a bad head gasket. check to make sure your heater core is not plugged also. both hoses should be hot to the touch, one slightly cooler than the other.

The Flux Capacitor! You have to generate 1.8 Gigawatt on it.

i suggest you have your radiator cleaned by a radiator shop to ensure good coolant flow

more heat generated from friction/heat transfer, But may be your thermostat, low radiator level, fouled cooling system, You mean you really don't know this? Hope you get an honest mechanic to fix you up. Goood LUCK.

You must remember that even putting in a new thermostate and refilling the radiator fluid that the fluid must be 50% water and 50% radiator fluid. If you use 100% radiater fluid it will overheat and if you use 100% water u will overheat,so it must be 50/50.

agree you need a thermostat but It sounds to me like a cracked head gasket allowing combustion gas into your coolant. If this is true the engine will only get worse.

Why do you need to drive 75 MPH anyway?

If you're seriously driving at speeds of up to 100 mph on our roads, I hope your jeep falls apart before you kill someone, IDIOT!!

It's OK to drive fast just be careful of the blue hairs they tend to drive in the left lane at min. speed.

Best option is to replace the radiator with a new one. You wont have problem with it anymore. Im one hundred percent sure of this. Believe me cause Im a certified ASE technician, with a certificate in cooling system, and engine performance.

I agree a fifty fifty coolant a thermstat and also did the replacement lower rad hose have a spring inside at higer speeds this hose will suck closed the org did have a spring I am sure

STOP SPEEDING AND YOU WONT HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT IT.

I have seen this problem twice, both times same problem. The suction hose from the radiator to the water pump (usually lower hose) must have a spring in it. If no spring it will be fine at idle or low speeds but when you step on the gas the water pump will suck the hose shut.

Simple answer for example why do guys jog during the Marathon seem to last longer then guys that are runing ... ? because your body is over working ... that's why car should hit the red mark on the gas

I WOULD HAVE TO SAY THAT YOU NEED A RAD CAP ,THEY WARE OUT TO

who knows?

First off, if you do over 100 mph and you hurt my kids, I will overheat!! Second it is a mopar!

your car is a turd

The flux capacitor! LOL, anyway, wildman, don't say that just because it's made by chrysler that it's crap, I'm sure bad stuff happens to all cars. And if he's driving 100+ mph, all probability says he's on a highway and not a residential street. If your kids are playing on the highway, smack them

my mom had a old buick somethin or other, and they ended up replacin her radiator, and puttin a fan in there, and when she would see it start to overheat, shed flip on the added fan so it would cool down the car

Like you never drove 100mph! Your vehicle may be just wearing out or your maintenance isn't up to par. I'm no mechanic but no thermostat!!!! Find someone who won't lie to you and spend the $$$ or get a new/used vehicle that's not a jeep

try buying a $20 electric fan and installing it this will also add a few horses

Buy a smaller more efficient car. I hope gas goes up to $5 a gallon, to hurt you suv/truck drivers who speed on the highway and take up so much space in the city, that no one can find parking. PS, I get 33mpg average with a tiny daewoo, so let the freaking $5 a gallon gas come! muhaha.

JEEP = PIECE OF POO FOR PEOPLE LIKE YOU

your radiator is stopped up, have it taken apart, and cleaned

Keep driving it like that and maybe it will blow up. Drive as fast as you want for as long as you want. Ever hear the add that says pay now or later. Get a new thermostat and new anti freeze .

You may have a cracked head or a bad head gasket. otherwise drive on..

THAT MEANS YOU NEED TO SELL IT AND BUY ANOTHER CAR????????????

i didnt hear anyone say anything about airflow. no matter what you do, if you dont have airflow, the radiator cant do its job. idiots.

it over heats because the engine is working harder. Duh.

Not having one ON A NORMALLY operating car means that car will run fine, BUT engine will take long long time 2 reach optimum operating temperature. So what? U will waste gas, lose power, emit more smog due 2 incomplete combustion, damage catalytic converter %26amp; never pass smog tests.

i dont speed and put others in danger

i just needed to know what can cause this problem

if i need to pull a trailer im sure that i have to reduce my speed to 55mph so it doesnt overheat, and minimum on the hiways here are 50mph

Is the air flow to the radiator blocked? Did you have the radiator cleaned and boiled out at a radiator shop? That is about it for the cooling system.

The only other thing could be the timing, causing the engine to get hot, or maybe a restricted exhaust system, or the engine running lean. Good luck
Radiators clog easy.Or head gasket.

Neither one, does the automakers invest in good parts.
Did you ever have the water system flushed? You may have some clogged and corrosive parts. Does your jeep have a temperature gauge? If it does, what is the temperature displaying in the city driving compared to highway driving? You may also need to use a better coolant or more of it.
its prob the radiator, you should get a cold air intake plus it will improve preformance
ur car sux srry but seriously its prob the radiator
